Default River Lyn

I had a great day on this small freestone river on friday with a friend from the forums Jamiet.

This was the first time i have fished this river and i was not dissapointed.

Fishing mainly dry para adam's with a tiny nymph on the point we must of shared nearly 90 between us.

Nothing over 1/2lb but when the fish are as lovely as they are on the Lyn who cares.

The brownie have the biggest pectoral fins i have ever seen and must be to copr with the fast flow.

We saw a few salmon in the river but most were well coloured.

A great day.

Shame on you WCB, tea and cake at Watersmeet is half the reason for going to the Lyn

Did you get as far as Rockford, there were three big (half pound plus!) uncatchable trout under the foot bridge there on Saturday.

Nearly Andy.
We started below murtleberry house and worked our way up finishing up just past long pool.

Ps if you find a pair of black Bolle boomslangs on the upper part of where i fished let me know.

I can vouch for the NT coffee shop at Watersmeet. A beautiful setting. Try the scones with jam and cream... mmmmmmmmm.........

Not for too long. Planning to go next season, pick the the right day and the salmon fishing can be exceptional.

As for Myrtleberry, caught my first ever Sea trout whilst staying there, 3 week old daughter in sling on chest...

I was walking along the Lyn from Lynmouth to Watersmeet on Saturday (and had the fine tea) and saw a few people on the water - mostly trout hunters but one salmon spinner. Have never fished it myself and guess the casting must be challenging!

Has anyone caught any salmon there and if so on fly or spin?

This post gives some idea of the rivers potential.

Most regular fishers use a worm or spinner there. There are limited opportunities for flyfishing down and across in the traditional salmon style but only with a single hander. I've always imagined Testwood style induced take nymphing would work well, but have yet to give it a go.

Default Trip down memory lane

The river Lyn was the first place I ever saw a trout, the first place I caught a trout (on worm) and the firts place I caught a trout on a fly. That was some 38 years ago when I was a kid and we used to holiday in Lynton by the river.

In the middle of May I am taking my parents and sister back, we are staying in Lynmouth and I want to reconnect with my long lost youth and fish the Lyn, from memory there are two rivers that meet at Watersmeet.

Any advice on which stretch to fish, where to get a permit from (do I need one ?)what style of fishing, nymph or dry, best time today etc etc would be most appreciated. I have all the kit that I could only dream about as a teenager and it would be great to catch and return a few of the Lyns brownies, thanks in advance Paul
