Default River clyde salmon fishing

Hi Folks,

I`m looking to wet a line on the clyde this year but never having fished it before for salmon im not quite sure where to go i know of the blantyre weir area and that it can get very busy, not really into lining up along the bank hoping to get a cast are there any other quiter areas that still give a good chance of a fish.

Also I would be looking to fish the fly but would spin if conditions suited.

Cheers.

i would also like to try the clyde ,but are put off with the same stories of lining up and hoping you get someoine letting you in for the chance to wet a line ,sounds like something from the states called combat fishing.

United Clyde has a stretch between The Power Station below Lanark and Bothwell Bridge ...Mid Clyde have the other part Hamilton to Rutherglen I think it is .

Get a mid clyde ticket and there a quite a few very accessible spots for you to fish.

Blantyre weir you know of, google blantye farm rd and have a look at the map, where it crosses the river you can fish the whole stretch from the bridge downstream to the house. Also a lot of good fishing around carmyle and cambuslang

Aye - the Clyde is a great river for Salmon fishing and has been for a few years now. The Mid Clyde club has just introduced a tag system this year so you have a five fish limit!

Plenty of places to fish there is 8 miles of it!

Have heard of big fish being taken this year on the river. The Mid Clyde stretch has lots of places to fish if you want to spin or bait but not sure if there are as many for fly fishing the river.

Awryt folks, I am wondering if any1 could give me some tips on fly fishing on the Clyde?

I normally fish for trout, this is my 1st season giving the salmon a go.

I no that the water is too low for spinning at the moment but i have a 3 piece double handed salmon rod was wondering if that would be better to use than a 3 piece single handed trout rod? and with a sinking line or a floating line?

any help with this or any other useful tips would be much appreciated as i am just new to salmon fishing.

cheers barrie
