Default Usk today:

Sorry Dean.............More fish porn

With conditions today nigh on ideal, 4 of us, (after fuelling up on a Waitrose breakfast) descended on the Usk.
The hopeful band of danglers were: Myself, Kieron, Allen & Carwyn.

Someone however forgot to tell the fish that conditions were gonna be perfect.
And apart from a brief spell when the olives hatched in good numbers, the fishing was kinda slow! No sign today of any of the bigger lads we know to be there. In fact the ones we got were still quite lean (See pics).
I'm sure though that the fishing will improve very shortly as more fly species start appearing, and for longer periods. Saw 2 March browns today ! first for a couple of years

brilliant! that taff trout you got is the biggest trout ive ever seen!

i also fished today for the first time on a river in about 2 months, the afon llwyd around caerleon. thought id fish the lower llwyd today because there are both deep pools and fast runs. i caught 100's of fish like i always do some even over the 50lb mark but didnt take pics of them, i did take pics of the river though...

Default Mind if I join the party.

Grand report there guys, & Frank, thats one lovely trout....

For the first in many Ive laid off the Usk this year... Yes, I know, I must be mad as it is on my doorstep... There just hasnt been enough time and money to do it all, but its refreshing to see others reports as above and that is just about filling the gap for me,,,,, Well ,,, almost, as there is nothing quite like the Usk on a fine spring day....

Keep those updated coming , cracking stuff
Matt

Looks like the Monnow may you be helping fill the gap.

Eye, you be right there Frank

Like Bushy says, keep us posted on the March Browns... It is April that we would expect to see an appearance of the MB'S on lower Usk, ie: Merthyr , Aber waters etc

Personally, a day like today is when I would expect to see them.
Its misty this morning with quite a bit of moisture in the air.... More often than not it would seem that a little drizzle or that slight range in temps from warm to cool with the rain seems to bring them on the wing....

Like the feb red stones appears more so later than it once did, or that it is a later hatch in the valleys we live in to that of the areas of where they were first named... Should we think to start reclassifying the names of these fly, Feb reds to March Reds & Mach Browns to April browns
They dont quite have the same ring to them do they ha ha ha, and many a flyfisher of yesteryear would surely turn in their grave...

Keep us posted

Cheers
