First cast on the River Adur
Hi all,
I plucked up the courage of saturday evening to have my first cast on the River Adur near my home. I was just by the railway bridge and spent about an hour casting a floating line and fly. Blimey its hard. I had no pre concieved ideas that it would be easy but hey its great fun and very relaxing. I reckon that I got one in six casts to fall nicely (not correctly) and I cant wait to have another go. The river was very clear and the tide was flowing up river. I wont have waders for another week so I could only stand in the first foot and a half of water with wellies on. I dont think I embarrassed myself as I didnt catch myself or any body else with it, didnt catch a fish either but then I didnt expect to.
One thing puzzled me, in between the odd good cast I found the line would land about 10 foot in front of me and not in a straight line, it would land on the water in a wavy fashion, got to work out how to fix this.
I was using a 6/7 weight floating line with a small dry fly (I lost one fly) on my cheap Leeda rod and next time I will try the intermediate line and see if it makes a difference. Knowing me I probably have the line attached to the reel the wrong way around. I will also take my new snowbee 8@ rod next time and see if I can work out the difference.
I would get lessons but work have just put me on a 4 day week and what with maintenance to the ex I cant afford the. But I also think that just trying is part of the fun.
