Default River Sence(Leicestershire)

I have been told today that the River Sence in Leicestershire has been stocked in certain areas(by a club) with trout and grayling. Anyone ever fished this river or know of the club that is doing the stocking?

My main reason is every day I drive over the river, peering into the water as I go over the bridge wondering if there are any fish to be caught on the fly, sad I know but true!!! Now I hear that the river may indeed contain some trout/grayling, so I might just be able to go fishing in my lunch hour, how great would that be!!!

I've seen loads of perch there as well, anyone had any consistent success catching them on the fly? I've managed a few on a Hare's Ear at the local stillwater, but think that's be more luck than anything else!

There is a syndicate who operate on part of the river that runs through the Gopsell Estate, the stretch runs from the 444 road bridge above Sheepy Magna back towards Market Bosworth / Measham direction, check it out on a map. I will try & get the phone number of the chap who runs it. They have just stocked with grayling Im told & stock with trout during the season. They have an excellent mayfly hatch as well. Membership around £300 per year.

Hi Jim,

Not too sure we its source is but its definately flows through Atherstone and down to Polesworth. It joins the River Anker at some point. The section I hope to fish is around the Pinwall area, just outside Atherstone. Will try and get a map of the area or take a walk down the river this weekend.

Great Ifor,

Any info would be greatly appreciated! By the way is wading permitted at Thornton and would doing so be suitable for a newbie?

Thanks

Matt

Default More info please!

I've managed to find out that the fishing club is call Gopsall, that looks after the River Sence. Anyone have any contact details?

I have spend the best part of 2 hours at work today trawling the Net(don't tell the boss! ) to try and find more information but no joy.

Do I just go and fish the area and hope someone comes and asks me why I'm fishing with a ticket and then try and join the club?

Default Bring me to my sences!

Oddly enough there are two river Sences in Leicestershire. There is the one that I know which rises near Houghton goes through Great Glen, Newton Harcourt and Kilby and merges with the Soar near Narborough. There is also the Sence that rises near Coalville and goes near to Sheepy Parva and merges with the Anker near Atherstone.

Both are stocked with Trout and both are nigh on impossible to get a ticket on. The syndicates controlling both these waters are extreamly low profile and I would also appreciate any leads regarding contact details.
