Default The "Royal" Derbyshire Dove

Fished the Wolfscote dale stetch today. Its in fine condition although a little low.

Managed to tease out one grayling of 6", probably one which has been recently stocked by the EA.

Looking forward to those warm evenings and fine risers of Dove brownies.

Phil

Has anyone fished the Church Mayfield stretch recently? Is it as good as W/cote dale?

I've just come back from, literally, an hour a bit lower down from Church Mayfield on the short DRAC stretch at Ellastone. I was actually giving a new rod a try out. Had three grayling and a 1lb+ rainbow that led me a merry dance

How was the S4 Gary? Still smiling?

Has your wife forgiven me yet?

Kev,

The S4 is a cracking rod. Although its described as fast action I find its got some flex in the mid section. Its cetainly not as fast as the Xp 9ft #4 that I had (and sold) last year and the S4 suits my casting style (I use the word style loosely !) much better. I can roll cast it and get turnover even with a couple of heavy bugs on the leader (as long as the bugs aren't deep).

I also got hold of an SA XPS floater which is a good line to cast with, very slick, but it didn't float too well in the riffles at the top of the stretch. Mind you I didn't put any mucilin on it (too much of a rush to try out the new rod ). Maybe it'll be more buoyant with some treatment. I've got the WF4as opposed to your DT but couldn't really tell much difference.

Just got to complete the sale of some stuff on ebay and the Lamson here now to pay for it!! Oh, and to keep the wife happy!

By the way, whilst ringing round this week to get hold of the S4 I was told that they are going to be going up in price soon due to the $ excahnge rate. It was suggested up to 25% increase !!

Gary.

Usually very good, but a new byelaw will mean that a lot of the most productive water on what is a fairly short stretch will not be accessible because of powerlines

Why do you call it "The "Royal" Derbyshire Dove"?

it was once reported in days
gone by that a monarch
was caught short on route
to the north.
he reportedly done a "richard
the third" on the bank of our
noble river hence "the royal"

is not dovedale supposed to be haunted

Hi Conrad,

Which sections are they restricting? Mayfield was my pop over for a spare hour or 2 water. If it's even smaller then I'll be down to it being my pop over for 10 minutes water...

Cheers

Johnny

Talking Info

Phil - Wolfscotedale isn't very productive for grayling, but awsome for trout.
Stick to Mayfield/Willersley for numbers and quality, especially through the Wintertime.

Colmans - Theres a powerline near the bridge which will wipe out a good part of the beginning, which is very productive .

KH Kid - your comments almost make me feel royal
