Default River Irfon - Gofynne beat - hints and tips?

Just booked a days fishing for this coming Sunday on the Irfon, on the Gofynne beat, via the Wye & Us Foundation.

I have never fished this river before so can anyone give me some hints and tips?

Kind regards

Hi Phil,

I don't know this beat, but the lower Irfon browns respond well to a goldhead grhe at this time of year.

Fish heads of pools and keep moving. You may also hit a decent chub (up to 5lb) so stay awake!

Its a great river - enjoy!

Not fished this beat but fished Cegnllysgwynne immediately upstream. If it's anything like that beat you certainly need a wading staff and probably a life jacket too!! Good luck, be interested to know how you get on.

Regards

Peter

Describes as reasonable easy wading on the wye and usk site. Looks a very very nice beat I am sure you will have a cracking day whether the fish play ball or not..

Fished it several times, Phil. Lovely beat..not very long but easy wading pretty much it's entire length.

Standard tactics. Give the pool at the head of the beat a real go..it looks OhSoFishy but I've never had a thing out of it. Cross to the gravel bar, if it's there and fish the throat with a heavy nymph..there must be fish there.

Have a good one,

Thank you Roy and Milo, just crossing fingers that the weather will play ball (as well as the fish!)

Kind regards

Exactly my thoughts as well Roy, but I never had a fish from there either

Yep... cross your fingers. The Irfon is not a great trout fishery. The water there is lovely but it is grayling territory really.
