Default Lugg at Mortimers Cross

I have a day booked with a couple of mates on this WUF beat for this Wednesday, 28 Jan.

I have a couple of questions I wonder if anybody can help me with:-

1. What are the chances of it being fishable? The webcam shows that the river is pretty high but I don't know how high it needs to be before it becomes unfishable. This is a wash-off day following a wasted 240 mile round trip in December when we found the Lugg looking more like the Zambesi. Even a Little Chef Olympic breakfast didn't ease the pain!

2. Assuming it is fishable, advice on tactics will be welcomed. I fished Lyepole a few times in the summer and had a lot of success short line nymphing so I presume this is the way to go at Mortimers Cross

Best wishes

I fished it with a couple of friends a week or so ago.
It was slightly lower then it is now and was fishable.
It was hard going to be honest but we still had a nice time.
We all caught on Nymphs deep.
We all said that it would be good to go back May time as we felt it was more of a dry fly type water sight fishing to rising fish then fishing for Grayling.

Guys,
Just look at the weather conditions............awful for this week! This means that the Lugg is likely to look like the Zambesi again on the 28th. You need to understand that conditions on the Wye and its tributaries can change from good to awful in a matter of 6-8 hours when raining and conditions as relayed to you in a timescale of days are not the best way to make a decision to drive 240 miles. Water height......well 2ft of dirty rising water is no good and 2ft of clean falling water is very good! Make up your own mind from the webcam!
Still I guess if you get it wrong the Little Chef won't mind

Gents

thank you both very much for your help. I'll ring the WUF, looks like we should delay for a while!

Regards

Peter
