Default Kirkby Stephen angling club/river eden

Hi all ,

I was going to join the Bolton Abbey stretch on the river Wharfe for this coming season (£300), but have also been looking at the Kirkby Stephen angling club waters on the Eden which is closer to my home and only £90 .

Is anyone in this club ? i can imagine that the fishing will be more of a challenge as its mostly wild trout , but for location and cost may be a better option than the Wharfe at Bolton Abbey.

any opinions and info on the Eden please .

Hi Sid, I am a member of PAA and a local membersip after joining fees is £90.
Country membership, i.e a member who lives more than 20 miles from Penrith post office, is I think £140. Very good value when you consider how much fishing the club owns.
I think Appleby anglers would be a better bet for you than KS.
I admit it's a few miles further for you, but not many, and membership of AAA is £40. AAA share some of PAA waters, and you will get some first class wild brown trout and grayling fishing on these stretches.
AAA were advertising in last months T&S so you should get in, as far as I am aware PAA, still has a waiting list.
Hope that helps. ATB Steven.

Alternatively, you could join Brampton AA for £31 and fish Aspatria AC, Carlisle AA, Keswick AA, Appleby AA, Kirkby Stephen AA, Windermere, Ambleside and District AA and Penrith Angling Association on exchange tickets!

Most of the members fish the beat upstream from Musgrave Bridge, but I think a better bet is the water upstream of beckfoot to Eastfield Bridge. There are very big fish in the Wharton Hall water.....but you'll have to be on the ball to catch 'em

I think your money would be better spent with the Appleby or better still Penrith club if you want all year round value and a variety of water types....

Sid,

Just noticed you are based in Co.Durham ?

How far is it from Durham to Appleby?

123 miles and 2 hrs 35 minutes according to Multimap ............. that's gotta be some dedication to fishing!

although not bad I suppose as it's 2 hrs for me from home to Carlisle, or 1 3/4 hrs to Bala!

I live in hartlepool in durham/teesside and was a member of Kirby Stephen last year, it was 56 miles to musgrave bridge from my house and took bang on 1hr 10 mins at a steady 70-80 mph.

For info Sid, I normally fish the tees and found the KS water really hard work ! I think late nights and stealth are very much the key to success there.
