Default Box Brook

Has anybody fished this stream near Bath? Is it worth joining the Batheaston club which I think has the fishing? Vews welcomed. I'm looking for some small stream fishing not too far from Newbury and this looks as though it fits the bill.

Regards

Peter

I had a half-seaon ticket for one year about 10 years ago. It is a small overgrown stream, located in a pretty little valley, hidden away from the road. The trains can be noisy at the top of the beat.

At the time I struggled with thigh waders and an 8ft rod. Now, I reckon I would have a much better time with chest waders and my 7ft GRx. Good head of small to medium sized brown trout and an excellent mayfly hatch. I seem to recall that one of two sea trout were caught each year.

In other words, great fun if you like that sort of thing.

I would join for a season and give it a go.

Cheers,

wjd

ps Bathampton Angling Association have the rights, and there are a few pictures and permit details on the website.

Well done. Which beat did you fish ? I spent most of my time on the Middlehill beat, between the railway bridge and the tunnel. The lower beat was more difficult access, although I believe that the club have done some work since then. I did not catch many grayling, but quite a few small to medium sized trout.

Downstream of the bridge at Middlehill. A lot of work has been done - I made the trip from Newbury twice to join working parties in March which was good for the soul! I felt I deserved those fish!

There's a lot of water to explore which i look forward to doing

Regards

Peter

Wasn't `My Halcyon River` filmed on the Box Brook? It was certainly one of the Avon tribs. Well worth a look if you can get hold of it.
