Default River Adur

Hi all,

I am brand new to this, got my starter gear and want to go fishing.

I live in Shoreham By Sea and want to practice on the Adur, I know I can fish below the Old Toll Bridge without a licence and permit but what about above it to Bramber bridge. There seems to be some confusion about the rules for this bit of river. Its tidal so what gives? I understand that the river has plenty of species in it.

Ive got all my gear set up, just need to invest in some waders and then I can stand in the water and make a fool of myself.

Thanks

Mike

Hello Mike,

I don't know if these will help, but should answer a few questions. I don't know where you intend to stand and try out your new waders, but be careful most banks are quite steep and don't allow for safe wading in this area.

Good luck

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the reply.

I am trying to find out how far up the river from the Norfolk Bridge in Shoreham you are allowed to fish without a rod licence or permit. The clubs seem to start from the north side of Beeding bridge but there is a piece of river that runs from Beeding to shoreham past the old cement works down under the old toll bridge and throught the Norfolk bridge to the harbour. Its the bit from Beeding down to the Norfolk Bridge that I am interested in but cant find any infor on this stretch.

Mike

It might be hard to believe now but in the old days the Arun and Adur were decent salmon rivers.

I would check this out a bit better. I am sure that you need a EA rod Licence if fishing for freshwater/migratory freshwater species even in the salt.
