Default River Ewenny

Hoping to start grayling fishing this winter. The Ewenny is on my doorstep so thinking of giving it a go. Would like some feedback on the river;

is it worth joining?
where do you get season tickets from? and how much?
can u wade in the river? looks quite narrow from the stretchs i have seen.
due to its small size, what would be the best rod (weight and length) for this river?

cheers

Two clubs share the canalised Waterton stretch - The Pencoed and The Ogmore AA. The latter has a waiting list see web site (http://www.ogmoreanglingassociation.com/) but I do not know about the former has a lot of water up stream, speak to Richard Tomlinson - very helpful - on 01656 863699.

I think wading is Ok but it is restricted in spawning seasons (for both trout and grayling) - the rules specify when.

My son fished it quite a lot (and hoping to go down in next few weeks) - serious numbers of grayling, good sized too.

Tight lines!
Mark

No wading is allowed on the River Ewenny,that belongs to O.A.A.
There is only a limited number of Grayling Permits available and these are for OAA members.
Winter fishing is from October-Febuary.
Contact the OAA mentioned in previous post.

Hi
Both Pencoed & Ogmore have access to the Waterton stretch, and there is superb grayling fishing to be had there. It is interesting water... TT likened it to "an industrial chalkstream" - and that analogy is not far wrong - though it is carboniferous limestone rather than chalk. The Waterton stretch has been heavily engineered in places but there is nothing wrong with the watercourse itself.

For Pencoed details, have a look here: http://www.cobwebs.uk.net/penangle
