Default Polish Rivers

Hi everyone

Just a quick report from the San River (no kill zone) and the Dunajec river. Fished these rivers last week with my wife and Polish friends who had persuaded us to try their fishing which they kept telling us about, and although it was very very wet with often high water the fishing was superb with dry fly and Polish nymphs.

Dry flies were miniscule - size 18 was a monster !!. Small hatches of Duns from mid morning to mid afternoon varying in colour from grey through brown, orange anf finally olive so the colours had to be changed. Rises were many, in fact mind blowing ,and Grayling and Brown Trout obliged to well presented dries mainly fished downstream with loads of slack line. My wife even had a Huchen pinch a Trout as she was netting it !!

Nymphs varied upwards from size 20 goldheads on the San to size 6 tungsten heads on the Dunajec which is a very wild and fast river and you had very little room to get down to the fish. However watching our Polish friends fish these rivers was a revelation as they picked fish from seemingly impossible places and it was poetry in motion. Overall my wife and I each managed 150 fish - Grayling and Brown Trout on the trip and came home with some superb different techniques. In the heavy water we also pulled out of many fish and the number of missed bited was unbelievable.Still with our newly acquired skills we can`t wait to try again next year - all we need is that vital invite.

permits for the best stretches of these rivers are about 315 a day so incredible value for the quality of fishing.

Default Polish flyfishing

Thanks for interest. I have no pics as it was raining very heavily all the time so didn`t want to wreck an expensive camerabut our Polish friend risked using his camera so when he gets back to UK we will hopefully have some good ones.I will post when I get them.

Fish size was Brown Trout upto about 2 lbs and similar with Grayling but we lost some monsters and I had a Grayling come off that must have gone 2.5lbs+.

We did not fish specifically for Huchen but as mentioned one tok my wife`s Trout as she netted it and one of our Polish friends hit a monster while nymphing in very heavy water. It just bored upstream and he could do nothing (Dunajec river) and the stretch we fished has huge Huchen but they normally get taken on streamers which can`t be used in September.

I'm going to Dunajec next week.
Can you give any hints where to aim for? Local shop for licenses etc?
Thanks
Jim
