Default River fishing near Cheltenham

Misses and self currently contemplating a move from Woodstock to Cheltenham and was wondering if there is any river fishing in the near vicinity. I'm familiar with most of the main rivers of the north Cotswolds (Coln, Dickler, Windrush etc.) but was wondering if here are any hidden little jems within a short drive of the town.

Cheers

Andy

There are some brownies in the stream that runs through the middle of town (Chelt I think).

Default Cheltenham fishing

It is the Chelt and there are some brownies in it but it runs through peoples gardens in lots of places which makes it difficult as most of them treat the fish as their pets.I have seen small fish in the Chelt running through Sandford park but I dont know what the town council would think about any one fishing for them. There are quite a few lakes around within a 25mile radius.

i remember (50 years ago!!)the trout above and below(and in!) Dowdeswell resevoir (on the A40) That is the Chelt.Haven`t looked ther for a very long time.
Not much good below the town or indeed round much of the Severn vale. Best head for the hills, Windrush, Churn etc

There is some fishing about 20 miles South on the Little Avon. Both Berkeley Angling Syndicate and Charfield Angling Association have websites. There is a waiting list of probably a few years for CAA, but it is worth it. PM if you need further details.

The Coln at Fairford is worth a visit on weekdays. Day tickets from the Bull, but sounds if you might be familiar with this.

There are plenty of WUF beats. Those on the Monnow, Arrow, Lugg etc are probably at least an hour away. These provide great variety of fishing.

Cheers,

wjd

Just NW of Gloucester there is the Leadon. I would hesitate to call it a river and although it looks trouty at Upleadon I couldn't swear it has trout. I seem to remember seeing that a sign saying the fishing belonged to a fishing club.
