Default Eden in Fife

Had a few spare hours (a rarity these days) so I spent the afternoon on the River Eden in Fife. The water was running low and clear, but a few fish were showing. I waded about a four-hundred yard stretch picking up four nice trout about the ten to twelve-inch mark, and missed another two or three - timing needs improved!

I fished a sunk greenwell spider through the slower stretches, dry quills in the riffles and between the weed fronds, and a sunk bug down the runs into the slack back eddys.

I’m not suggesting a full days entertainment is likely - the banks are very overgrown, but if your prepared to wade your way up stream, it should prove a fruitful couple of hours.

Interesting, where did you get a ticket from and what was the rate?

Cheers

45 quid for a season or 8 quid for a day ticket. Aladdins cave in Leslie near Glenrothes.

Could also try J W Wilson ironmongers on South Street in St Andrews for tickets - they also sell flies and some tackle, although they were generally more suited to loch fishing on Cameron Reservoir. Although I haven't lived in Fife for about 4 years, the Eden used to be a cracking little river - with an early run of sea trout in April and with the main salmon and sea trout run in mid-Sep to early Oct. The brown trout fishing above Dairsie bridge all the way up to the junction pool with Ceres Burn was everything you could wish for from a spate river. Happy days
