You have the South Tyne & the Nent which runs into the South Tyne at Alston. Which part of the Tees are you looking for information from as you can fish from right up in Tees dale all the way down to Beyond Darlington with a fly rod, If we know which area you would be interested in we can narrow it down for you

Raby Estates are the ones to contact for most of the upper reaches, there is a free stretch at Barnard Castle but it isn't that long and the details can be found if you look through some of the fishing in England books. Most places on the Tees will produce trout, The Association hold a good stretch from Piercebridge downstream then it goes into the individual clubs like Darlington Browntrout, there is also another free stretch at Broken Scar in Darlington, again trout are common on this stretch also. Am sure if your looking for a day up some of the lads would provide you with the relevant info on day tickets etc once you have decided where you wanted to fish.

Don't forget there's Barnard Castle AC, which is value for money.

Talking about the river, i like to fish the fly all year round and usually find this time of the year difficult for the Grayling, (plenty of out of season trout). Is it best just to put the fly rod away until the start of the trout season ?

Colin

Colin, for what it's worth I have always found the fly hard going at this time of year too.

You could do what others on here do and get the trotting rod out. I much prefer it anyway for winter grayling. I'll be hammering the fly rod enough when the coarse season closes!!!

Not long now...
