Default Rivers near North Oxfordshire

Hi
New to the forum, had an evening out on the Windrush in Burford last night, was hoping to be able to have a couple of casts at some of the browns I have seen from the town car park but was not in luck. River was quite coloured and made it difficult to spot the fish I have seen before hovering below the ducks that get fed by the tourists.
Thought I'd try a breadfly first anyway - matching the hatch? That didn't work so put on a gold headed nymph and tried various places along the river below the car park, four flies and various lengths of tippet lost to trees later returning to the car for a few last casts before packing in. Managed to hook up with a small Perch right by the footpath so didn't completely blank. Highlight of the evening was seeing a Barn Owl flying over the field twice and swooping down for some prey in the long grass. I also found the remains of a large eel on the bank with the head and tail missing - a sign of an otter?
Hoping to try a couple more places not too far from here that won't break the bank - any ideas? It is less than an hour to Hertfordshire for the Ver or the Chess down the A41 from here.
Matt

The Windrush Newlands Angling stretch below Witney is worth a go. Good head of wild fish and some stockies that have migrated up/down stream from the adjacent CFF waters above and below. To my mind it's probably the best stretch of the Windrush (I'm a CFF member as well so have access to the majority of the river between Burford and Stanton Harcourt) with lots of features, tree cover etc.
It's proper 'rough' fishing, so wading and a short rod is the way forward. There are some pretty deep holes however, so proceed with caution.
Good head of chub and barbel also.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy had a good day on the Coln last week, are there any day ticket waters on the Windrush?

Only Windrush day ticket water is the Burford Angling stretch at Burford. The Orvis shop sell tickets. Newland is annual subscription only but is very good value at £50.

Cheers

Andy
