Default PAAS Welsh Rivers

This will be my second season in PAAS and I intend to do a couple of visits over to Wales for brown trout and later on grayling fishing.

PAAS has a multitude of waters and trying to make sense of it is quite difficult, and its not quite on the doorstep to check it out easily myself.

I understand that many of the "Game" waters allow certain bait fishing but I would be fly only.

I would like to identify some of the more remote river stretches that can be fished for brown trout with some expectancy of success. I have been through the waters guide but as some of the notes are quite old maybe someone on here could give me one or two pointers.

Any help will be appreciated.

Exclamation Read the rules

Fishcake

Before you get all giddy.....read your rule book

It prohibits public chit chat and pics etc of PAAS matters.

However someone may wish to talk about a river 'somewhere' fished be A N Other.......No names and no pact drills of course.

Use the PAAS website forum(where you can openly talk)...but it may take a while for a response as its not as widely used as this one.

Sewinbasher may also be worth a PM as he collated info for the club before an internal fallout (my appologies SB if this out of order)

I'm afraid that I haven't quite worked my way through the whole rule book.

I may need to call my solicitor but I think that the rule refers to "Articles" being published that feature the society's waters. Not sure that this thread is by defintion one and the same.

If anyone with any information wants to help out but is concerned about being caught flagrante delicto maybe they should PM me instead of replying on here.

Thanks for your help Sedgeking.

How intriguing, I though this sort of undercover work was the preserve of our SWFF cousins!!

Fishcake I have asked a similar question on here a while back and like you I was not aware of the publicity rule and having mulled it over I cannot see how asking for advice on a forum is breaking the rule

Lets face it PAAS attend numerous large angling and outdoor events to, one communicate with the existing members, two to promote PAAS to potential new members and three to promote angling and its benefits to a wider audience, so in light of that I cannot see how asking for advice on here could be construed as wrong.

The advice I got on here was ok, although I only got a couple of replies and I was left thinking there has to a better way of getting more accurate info. The counter balance is all the PAAS members I have encountered on the Welsh Dee have really helpful although on the more remote waters you are far less likely to bump in to another angler.

Hi Fishcake,

I'm an Ex PAAS member, and a number of their waters have been discussed on this and other furums over the years.

With regards to discussing PAAS waters on the forum, unless they have a way of establishing exactly who you are on the forums (unless you give your real name away), it's unlikely they would be able to haul you in for breaking their publicity rules.

If you really haven't read their rules, then I suggest you do before you fish any of their waters. If you are caught breaking any of the rules (of which there are many) you will be up before the committee.

Also be aware that certain waters are closed and can only be fished by members who have attended a work party. It's usually a good idea to attend a work party as early as possible in the year - so you don't have to keep checking and to avoid being caught out.

With reagrds to your original post, if it's the Welsh Dee you are seeking more information on, then have a read back over the Welsh Dee thread, there is lots of information on there about the PAAS beats on the Dee.

Or as Sedgeking has mentioned, Sewinbasher knows the PAAS water well, have a look at his old posts, it may be time consuming, but there is a wealth of information on other PAAS waters in some of his old posts.

Hope that helps!

I have been through the bulk of the rules and am aware of the particular restrictions on closures if you haven't been on a works party.

I'm not trying to get myself or anyone else in any bother so a PM with info gets round the publicity issue.

I've had some feedback on PM already so thanks to those that have replied.

Remember you can bring a friend, or two on any working party; but they have to be pre-registered with the society for insurance purpose, this only costs a few quid.

I nearly got excomunicated.

Forgot to add that most of the mid Wales PAAS water is primarily salmon or sewin water; but obviously they hold brown trout in varying numbers and size.

Like putting your date of birth and location in you public profile for instance.

Default Don't Blame Me

Tommorrow's weather forecast has been updated from light showers to heavy to torrential down pours with the potential of 1 to 1.5 inches of rain. Add that to the 5 foot flood currently on at Tregate and SB's jaunt with TP and MC looks decidedly dodgy and frankly now the early part of next week is looking in doubt too. That is not a wind up either.
