Default Tweed valley river trout & grayling advice

As luck would have it I have to drop something off in good old Glasgow on Wednesday and as I have no work on Thursday or Friday I thought I would call in on some non fishing friends in Glentress area and try and grab some river fishing in the local area.

I don't mind driving but if possible I would to find a decent day ticket section of water within an hours drive (40 miles ish) of Glentress.

My preference would be dry fly, followed by spiders, followed by bugging, I'm happy to pay up to £20 a day for my ticket. Any advice, contacts etc would be most welcome, thanks in advance Paul

The Clyde isnt too far away from Glentress, Day tickets for less than a tenner.

The Tweed is but 200 yards from the Glentress Hotel! Get a ticket in Peebles (about 4 miles along the road from Glentress) from the Castle Warehouse shop, Tontine Hotel or the 'Cast around Peebles'. About £7 a day for over 15 miles of water.

Got to go with Dunbar on this one. It would be silly to be staying in Glentress and not fish the Tweed. Miles and miles of good water at your disposal and you don't need to travel anywhere far at all.

Default Cheers

Many thanks for all the replies, the Tweed gets my vote. Given the large amount of water on offer are there any tackle shops that I can get a ticket, some flies and bit of up to date advice from, not sure if the Cast around Peebles is a tackle shop or something entirely different

I'm quite excited as this will be my first fishing trip to Scotland which is crazy when you think I've been fly fishing for nearly 20 years heres hoping the fishy gods are kind to me.

btw whose water will I be fishing, I assume its a club or association water ?
