Default Nith and Venachar

Up on the River Nith Thornhill last week-end , water levels were very low .No sign of any salmon but there was a couple of sea trout spotted down at the bridge on the lower beat .A few brown trout were caught and plenty of grayling best grayling 2lb .Liked the river very much and will return again in the autumn .We went up to Loch Venacher on the Sunday and had a great day on a really beautiful loch ,best brown over 2 lb . There is a new fishing lodge where you can get a cracking breakfast and a large selection of cakes ,a bowl of cullin skink for lunch went down well with the apple pie .My father took me fishing there 45 years ago so it was great to return after so long . A group of us travelled up on the sleeper, best to book early as could'nt get a bunk , some had'nt even a seat on the way back although first class was practically empty, seems a bit uncivilised to ask people to stand for over 10 hours ,I was glad to have my seat.Enough of my rambling on .I reccommend both places the Nith is only £17 per day early in the season and there is always a chance to catch ...................

Hi Gary
I think the reason you hav'nt heard of it because it's around 85 miles from Thornhill ,up towards Callander Trossachs area .Takes about 1hour 45 mins driving ,its 3 mls from Brig of Turk on the A821 ,there's another great
named place called Killmahog .Well worth a visit fishing is all "broonie's"
and not that easy ,long leaders with long droppers and small flies is what worked for me . Hope you enjoy I will be going back a few of our group blanked which is great for me as they can't wait to return to right the wrong
all best Hugh
