Default Owenriff River, Oughterard, Galway

Hi

I know the Corrib is right next door, but I fancy some river fishing, is the owenriff at oughterard any good ?

It certainly looks fishy !!

Thanks

Drfrank

PS

I drove past the River Loughkip on the way to Moycullen, looked amazing (very fishy) but I saw no rising fish, anyone fished it ?

Don't think you can fish the Owenriff, it's nearly all privately owned. According to the boys in the town, the lower bit at Oughterard is free but any trout I saw rising there were very small. It's really a salmon spawning stream so might be worth a throw at the back-end when it gets a drop of water. Ask around in the town for more info

There used to be a pub in Oughterard, called The Mayfly Inn, if you can find out how to contact them they used to be very helpful about all the fishing in the area.
