Default Avon/clyde Permits, which ones?

Looking to get my river permits for 2012 in, will be buying for myself with the mrs and my three year old son on the float. Noticed that the two rivers are split into four permits, Mid clyde, clyde, avon and upper avon. What rivers would be better for taking the family out on, aswell as still being good for myself when on my own. I was thinking avon and clyde and giving midclyde and upperavon a miss.
I also noticed on one site that said if i buy the salmon/sea trout permit i can fish grayling on this permit aswell as brown (lesser species). Would this be a better option?

Any info would be great guys, cheers in advance.

ps im from Hamilton, if that makes a difference.

Darren

I think that the UCAPA ticket UCAPA Ltd. is great VFM.

Cheers mate, any idea if the 2011 prices are staying?
Am i right in saying this covers motherwell to crawford?

Also how is the fishing on the Lower Avon, 25 quid for the salmon permit which covers grayling aswell seems magic.

I don't know if the prices are going to be the same for 2012.but I would not imagine there will be a huge increase.Motherwell to elvanfoot. with some sections belonging to other clubs/farms,but still miles and miles of great water..No idea about the Avon, not fished it for 40 years.

This is where it gets a bit complicated, but there are more than 4 permits for the two rivers.

There's the two Avon clubs, although the £25 salmon permit will allow to fish for any species on the entire length of the river Avon.

There's Mid Clyde, UCAPA, Hozier Angling Club and Lamington, all requiring separate permits.

Then you can buy a UCAPA salmon permit which does indeed allow you to fish for any species, and freshwater species on a Sunday, but you can only fish between Stonebyres for freshwater fish, the limit of the salmon's journey.

You can buy a UCAPA freshwater permit which covers all UCAPA waters and not just upto Stonebyres.

Then you can buy a universal permit which allows you to fish any UCAPA water for any species.

Yeah it was the UCAPA permit and the AAC permit i was asking about mate. Im just going to get the freshwater UCAPA permits, 40 quid one, for the three of us and ill probably buy a grayling permit for myself so that i can fish until March. The Migratory permit i was talking about was the AAC one, being only 5 quid dearer than the Trout permit, however i didnt realise the avon was a trout AND grayling permit.

Yes there are a few grayling about in the Avon.

Why buy a grayling permit for UCAPA?

Purchase your freshwater permit NOW, which is valid from the 1st of January to the 31st of December, for all freshwater species.

John has cover everything in his reply
Forgetting salmon fishing then the Avon and the UCAPA fresh water permits are great value and yes with that ticket you can fish from Motherwell all the way to crawford missing out the hosier and Lamington beats.

Also kids go free on Upper Avon.

AAC is also very cheap and great value.

Why not buy them all?
