Default Upper Tees

Has anyone fished the Raby estate water on Upper Tees? I've always fancied it, but it's a long way to go for me not knowing what to expect...
I assume it needs water?

Matt

I haven't fished there myself but other peoples reviews are usually good. Infact, I'm not sure I've read a bad review of the stretch.

There are a couple of threads on this forum from last year - I'll see if I can find them. Hold tight.

EDIT: Here we go Clicky here

Thornaby Angling Association eh? How do you find that stretch of the Ure? I've just acquired access to some water a little way downstream of there (Clifton Castle), but never having seen it, I've no idea what to expect....

Sorry for the delay in reply ... I forget which threads I reply to some days!

I've not been there yet (waiting for the weather to stablize a bit more) but a lot of people advocate anything below Aysgarth Falls as being a "prime" stretch. Czech nymphs and North Country spiders seem to be the favoured tactics. Heavy grayling population and good trout numbers too.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get my line wetted down there

UPDATE: Managed to pop over there yesterday afternoon. Didn't get any action myself but a chap who was just leaving as I came had 3 trout on worm over the course of the morning. Saw three rises but neither nymph or dry was interesting enough to cause a take.

Overall it looked like a nice river, typically peat stained but with a lot of features plus fairly contrasting fast and slow flows within short distances. I think a trip back in 3 or 4 weeks would be more entertaining (and warmer!)

Default Tees

Hi Matt
The upper Tees is a great fishing venue if you like wild fishing and even wilder fish - see a photo on my website (day ticket page) and for details of tickets etc

Hi Mike,

Do you know how much it costs per day?
Can it get busy, and are there restrictions on what flies you can use?

Sorry about all the questions.

many thanks ken

I used to stop over at The Highforce inn and fish the Raby estate ,some excellent trout .
Most of mine were to dryfly para Adams did well as did sawyer pt nymphs .
this is well over 20 years ago ,used to use it as a break from drivng to the far North of Scotland and as a base for some work I did up North .

Default Upper Tees

Hi Ken
Can't remember the price exactly but around the 15.00 for the day rings a bell!
No restrictions on flies other than barbless obviously. Give Raines a ring. Only thing that was different is that you have to produce your E.A. Lic to get a day ticket - no lic. = no ticket is the rule.

It has never been busy whenever I have been fishing there - only me and a buddy - never saw another human being other than a few twitchers walking about.
The very upper limit where it comes out of the lake is a mighty wild place to fish
