Closest is either Meadow fisheries Mickle Trafford near Chester or Woodhouse farm Newton le Willows near St Helens. Quite a few within an hours drive.

For rivers you are looking at North Wales, Lancashire or Cumbria.

I caught what I thought was a sea trout from the River Douglas nearly 30 years ago.

I was in my early teens and new nothing about fishing (still don't).
I had never caught anything like it before which is why it is so memorable.

I caught it next to the lock gates where the Leeds Liverpool Canal meets the River Douglas.

I spend a lot of time on the banks walking my dogs and although I have never fished it since, I have only seen fish a couple of times.

Default fish

A lot of fish in the Dougy these days , mostly coarse , even had a flaty on the pin at Burcough earlier this season , which would suggest migratory fish will return and probably have in small numbers its does not look like good fly water though, a lot of it seems almost canal like, slow moving

And here and there a foamy flake
Upon me, as I travel
With many a silvery waterbreak
Above the golden gravel,

And draw them all along, and flow
To join the brimming river,
For men may come and men may go,
But I go on for ever.
