Default Derbyshire day ticket?

Before im shouted at for being lazy and not looking through the threads below can i say in my deffence there are over 2000 replies.
Anyway back to the point, myself and 2 friends would like to sample the delights of river fishing as we normaly fish small to medium still waters (and recently the river Soar but that would appear to have no fish in it!). Has anyone got any recomendations for a nice day ticket stretch, preferably away from the crowds as due to **** planning we are looking to be heading up the first bank holliday weekend in May. We are not fussed about it being on one of the larger rivers or the water being stocked. In fact i quite like the idea of hunting little wild bownies on out of the way waters. Price for us will be a limiting factor so cheaper the better.

Many thanks in advance.

Sheepy.

You could try the derwent hotel,
cheap but very limited.
The peacock at rowsley.

Not very many day tickets available in derbyshire
i'am afraid mostly taken up by clubs.

derby railway angling club do a membership
for £65 which includes derwent, dove ,ecclesbourne
and sutton brook .

Day tickets in Derbyshire are available but they are at a premium. You must book in advance if you want to get on the better waters. My recommendation for a really great experience is the Haddon Estate Fisheries Department's 7 miles of the Derbyshire Wye. You book the tickets here. I know I'm biased by living literally on this stretch, but in my defence I have fished just about every day ticket stretch of river in the Derbyshire Peak District and it is, quite simply, the very best you could get anywhere. It is actually better than some of the private syndicate waters. On its day (or rather evening!) it is the best dry fly fishing you will ever find.

If you visit the link above you will find Newsletters with stories and tips, a Map, Policy document, all sorts of stuff...

Cheers All.

The Peacock looks great but 35 quid a pop is a bit steep! Given that all of us are complete novices at river fishing then we may well give the Derwent Hotel stretch a go. After all if all goes tits up then its only a fiver wasted. It gets a nice write up here too (from 2003 so may have changed) http://www.thederwenthotel.co.uk/Tro...Dec%202003.pdf
Anyway im off climbing up that way in a couple of weeks time so may well stop off and have a butchers.
Any more reccomendations would be greatfully recieved.

Thanks.

Yah, but if you look through the pics section you might be convinced that a day on the peacock water is worth it. Bring your three weight and a baloon caddis if I recall correctly.

Richard,

If you were pushed to answer without mentioning The Peacock's water what else would you recommend?

If price is a concern then the Derwent below Ladybower and the Barlow Brook at Barlow Fisheries.

Hi Sheepy, Ive just investigated this stretch

You obtain tickets at Ladybower, so ring them www.ladybowerfishery.co.uk
I should mention this venue is not open until May or very end of April at the earliest.

Good Luck

Mick
