Default River Feugh

Hi

Does anyone know this river? I think it is a tributary of the Dee near Aberdeen. An old (non-fishing) friend has just inherited a bungalow that apparenly has fishing rights there. He says it is very overgrown.

Was wondering if it was worthing trying to cadge a visit! What would be the best time of year? How big is it? Salmon and sea trout presumably?

Cheers

James

I would say its worth a visit. I usually stop at the Falls of Feugh whenever passing and watch them jumping the falls.

Don't know how easy it is to fish though, or what time of year

Used to fish it a fair bit. The sea trout usually arrive late May. There is the very occassional salmon before this, the Falls of Feugh act as a temperature barrier and the first fish usually dont go over until late April. Never did catch too many salmon, mainly grilse. They used to arrive in numbers about the middle of June with the peak of the run in early July. The last couple of seasons the grilse run has been late, with the peak in early August. The river is very overgrown and the ability to Speycast with a singlehanded rod is a must, overhanging trees make the use of a doublehander impractical. It really depends on where the cottage is, a lot of fish run up the River Dye, the main tributary, so if it is on the Feugh above the confluence with the Dye, then the amount of fish present will be considerably less. The river is very dependant on spates, in dry summers it is a waste of time.
