Yes please, will be up that way for my annual Lakes-based fishing week in early June and the last couple of years we've had a day on the Sedbrugh AA beats on Rawthey, Lune etc (mainly Rawthey), so any more local tips/reports appreciated. Thanks and welcome

Not very good over the last few years, there have been some days where there has been perfect conditions and very little fish taken. Even the back end run in September and October has declined. Having said this there are plenty of fish still running but seem reluctant to take.

Pick your days very carefully.

Lunesman,

A welcome thread on the Lune! I'm a member up at Sedbergh and also with YFFC (they have just acquired a length at Rigmaden).

How do you find the trouting on the Lune these days? I have to say from my experience around Sedbergh, I've sadly found it to be abysmal. Please tell me there are still a few fish around and that the Rigmaden beat may be worth a visit....?

Matt

The trout fishing on our beat is up and down. Some evenings in spring you see fish rising, but take nothing, othertimes you think the river is dead and do quite well.
The ten year average for our beat is
Brown Trout 117.4
Sea Trout 123.5
Salmon 40.7

Regards Lunesman

PS Ive had some good trout out of the Rawthy, between the bridge by Pinfold caravan site and the weir.

Does the lune have any grayling in it. A few years back on a working party on the ribble a bloke told me of grayling he had caught in the lune?
My other m8 Danny who recently passed away had done some major civil engineering work on the lune and said the bloke was dreaming. He hadn't seen any grayling but had seen quite few salmon sea trout trout and quite a few course fish had come into the pipes at he time of the work but no grayling.
just wondering that all
thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,

Nope, there are no grayling in the Lune. I've always found this strange as the river (and its tributaries Dee and Clough), have their sources within a few miles radius of the Eden, Ribble and Ure - all noted grayling streams.

I'd love to find out why this is the case - have they just never been introduced? Surely someone in the past must have caught a couple on the Ure at Appersett and driven back over Moorcock and dumped them in the Clough....or maybe not.
Either way it's a shame they don't inhabit the lune - maybe they would thrive where the native trout seem to be in a precarious state.
