Hi,
I've set up this thread, to try and coordinate the interest in the restoration of the Erewash as a wild unstocked trout stream.
The intention is to set a date for a riverside walk along different sections of the Erewash, to decide upon a suitable location.
Any interested parties are welcome.
Thanks Nick for setting up this thread,for all those that are interested could you please submit dates as to which you will be avaliable in say 3 weeks time on a sunday,this will be subject to river conditions as the erewash is at the moment 3 times its normal size and steaming through like a train and is set to rise some more .

I'm free Sunday 10th, 17th, 24th February at any time for a river walk. What about setting up a website for the project, and perhaps an official group name etc. We could then approach the Wild Trout Trust etc.
Is there a suitable hostelry near the Erewash suitable for a gathering/ meeting after the walk - the Festival Inn, Trowell ?
I hope no one thinks I'm being pushy, I'm just enthusiastic and keen.
Nick, Del and all, I'll watch this thread with interest. As you may have gathered, things are quite busy for us down on the Wandle... but if there's anything we can do to help, just let us know...
BTW, if you're dealing with any urbanised areas, which you may be, you might want to breathe the words "Trout in the Town" into the ears of the WTT. It's their new initiative, with the Wandle as one of the pilots, but I'm sure they'd be glad to roll it out to you if everything fits together.

Edit PS: one step at a time, of course, but you might want to look at the idea of an Angler's Riverfly Monitoring Group too? Sort out the bugs, or the reasons why they're not there, and the rest may well follow...
I'm free Sunday 10th, 17th, 24th, although I'm not sure about access from the Fez unless we head north, as all of us plodding farmers land could upset someone. I'm happy to start anywhere, either the bottom or the top stretches, that gives me time to reckie the middle stretch for permissions to roam a little.

Right ,i have just been on the phone to the ea and i am now waiting for a call from their pollution officer for the area Mr Firkin ,so i can find out more about any pollution that has happened on the erewash and where it has happened,which will give us a bit of knowledge as to where problem area`s may be,so that we can look into reducing these problems ,because it no good starting this project if we dont address pollution issues 1st.I shall keep you informed of what has been said as soon as i know something.

10th of February is fine by me. What about meeting in the Festival Inn carpark @ 10-00am, and then walking the river near there. This stretch is accessible by public footpath, and is between some sewage works. It is also relatively near countryside.
What do you guys think. I haven't heard yet from the Wild Trout Trust as yet.
