Default Oh!

Yes Dave I meant forward .

Ive just got back from setting the workshop up with Dai Roberts for a good start in the morning, Dai seems like a good old stick and knows his stuff. Fingers crossed with no rain we should get our feet wet and have a top day and between 12 of us we should find 1 or 2 interesting things in our dirty little river .

See you in the morning 9 ish

Mick

Default Riverfly

that was a great day's learning.

stuart and dai were brilliant (hip, hip hooray)
never knew there was so much in the rivers.
cant wait to use all the testing kit on
our local rivers to see whats lurking about.

like the bit where the olives were emerging
onto the classroom windows

cased caddis under the microscope was also
another stunning image.

great day

Default Help for the good willing river custodians

Hi there - this is in no way a criticism or a pouring of cold water on your enthusiasm for your local stream. It is more a gentle pointer to helping the stream be as good as it can be.

In the top picture, the best thing to do would be to collect and remove the floating trash - as it sends out a poor message about the state of the Nut brook. HOWEVER, the log jam (and even the associated submerged rubbish) is actually providing great habitat. It should be left in place for the fish to use.

If possible, perhaps the big lumps of wood could be tossed back into the stream in roughly the same position??

All the best and keep up the great project to restore and look after the Erewash and tribs.
