it's a shame you can't make it Ian and Skateboard Dave, but it would be impossible to choose a date to suit all. I'm sure we will get your input anyway.
Maybe we should look above Langley Mill first, looking at the O/S map there aren't any sweage works above there, and there would seem to be access by public footpath. Interesting that trout have been reported from there, the Bagthorpe enters the Erewash not far from there, and trout have come out of there.
This is all getting rather exciting, very much like an East Midlands version of the Wandle project.
Setting up a blog for this sounds a good idea Warren, yours is excellent read, and has been added to my favourites.
I have yet to hear from the Wild Trout Trust, maybe I will try and ring the office, but a busy day in a primary school, doesn't always make telephone calls possible during office hours.

Nick I've got a few I took in spring from just above the Toton Park.
Annoyingly I deleted some earlier today!
I've just had a look on www.streetmap.co.uk to check where I fished in April/May.
I got up as far as the southern end of Langley Mill...sh@t another few hundred yards and I might have found trout!
It was the sewage works area just south of LM where the orange stuff was leaching out of the banks and for about 1/2 a mile downstream of it was very poor but picked up(started seeing some fish again) just before it flowed under the canal(New Eastwood-Shipley Gate). Just upstream of the works are some old factory workings/building site/just industrial wasteland(was grim-even for me!)...looked a prime polution spot if ever there was one, was more leaching here too.
Where and when exactly did the last polution occur?
Here are a couple of pics I do have just to brighten the thread up...

Trollew swim top of Toton Park, just up from here is a superbly trouty looking glide.

River splitting above the park, main flow goes off to the left.

A view upstream from the "split", not trouty and getting a bit too industrial...but saw a pike of around twenty!

Nice rifle couple of hundred yards up from the railway bridge, was here that the water smelt iffy and not much showing despite looking good.

Another nice looking spot from the same area

Love these signs

And finally a chub from below the LM sewage works...there are fish now lets make some of 'em trout!

Nick the blog is a great idea - I shall be adding it to my favourites. Does anyone know of any good literature about habitat management specifically for river trout?
