Question River fishing near Bourne, Lincolnshire

My parents in law are moving to near Bourne in Lincolnshire later this month. Great for Eyebrook and Rutland Water, but does anyone know of any river fishing within striking distance?

At a cursory glance, it all looks rather coarse. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Alex

Parents moving to Lincolnshire? Smacks of child abuse to me; surely any parent considering a move should be looking at a bankside property on the Itchen

Seriously - my parents have lived in Lincoln for a number of years & I haven't yet found any fishing that I've enjoyed when visiting. If you do find somewhere worthwhile, please let me know.

Good luck,

Splash2

I believe Grantham Angling Club have a game fishing section fishing the Upper Witham. I seem to remember that there is a waiting list.

The Witham is about your only chance. If you have no joy making inquiries through the tackle shops or the club mentioned by Pond Olive, try calling the folks at the environment agency. I can't remember the guy's name, but there is someone there that seems to know all the details you could ever want to know. If you get an OS Map Explorer 247 (1:25000 scale) you can get pretty specific, and the descriptions spoken over the phone, like "two fields north on the east bank by Park Farm, near Little Ponton," will actually be something you can fix on.

I've heard there are some 'interesting' fish in there, similar to the ones in the Upper Welland. Well worth a look!

If you find anything else I'd be interested to know.

Good Luck

Thanks Killipso. And what a lovely website you have. I might also get in touch with Theo Pike about helping on the Wandle this winter - a very useful connection made.

hi kellykettler, I spend much of a mis-spent youth growing up on the fens. You will be pressed to find any trout river's however if you drive up towards Alford there is a village called Aby which has a river next to a trout farm and the guy stocks the river for fishermen. It was year's ago when I used to poach/fish this small river as a young boy but it might still be there (try 01507 480225). As for the Witham, all I remember it for is Bream and eels.

Otherwise get some pike flies as you are in pike central and it's really great fun. I've had some cracking pike from the River Nene.

Otherwise the River Nar or Yar in Norfolk.

Nar or U Wissey in Norfolk.
Upper Witham does have trout.
Guash out of Rutland Water towards Stamford
Great Eau around Aby on E side of Wolds stocked by trout farmer Adrian Harrop.
River Bain north from Horncastle.
There might be trout in the Glen around Bourne but nothing very special.

But none fantastic which explains why so many folk from the E Counties fish in Scotland...

Default Welland - fishing rights, clubs

Folks,

Does anyone know who owns the fishing rights on the different sections (maybe tributaries) of the Welland in and around Stamford? The Orvis Shop in Stamford does not seem to know about it. The Guash is under control of the Guash(Gwash) Angling Club and there is a rather long waiting list on which my name has already been put down but that takes another 1-1.5 years until I can see anything looks like a permission on their sections. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter
