Default Appletreewick fishing

Does anyone fish the Wharfe at Appletreewick?

I was thinking about the Bradford City AA stretch this morning.

How big are the trout and grayling?

Where do you normally park the car?

Superb fishing in this neck of the woods Fox,magnificent surroundings too. I can't vouch for the Bradford stretch as I usually go on the Burnsall ticket which has 6 miles or so between Barden bridge and Linton stepping stones. I've walked along the Bradford stretch many times,as it is sandwiched inbetween Burnsall sections. It's is bonny enough water, but popular with scrotes, dogs and bait fishermen in the summer months and I've never seen too many fish move here through the day.
All the Burnsall water is a joy to fish... in 20 yrs of fishing it I could count on one hand the number of other anglers I've bumped into, and a great deal of their water is away from the footpath..and walkers..and scrotes.
I've had Browns to 3 and a half lbs and Grayling up to 2 over the years - it is stocked ehre and there but has a good head of wild fish too.
Ollie Edwards filmed some of his DVD series on the Burnsall water... I thought I knew every lie on the Burnsall stretch untill I saw Ollie winkling fish out of water I hitherto deemed devoid of fish....he'd probably even catch on the Bradford water

Sorry to hijack this thread but Scratch, having stayed at the New Inn many, many times in pursuit of another hobby (mountain biking) I have been wondering what the fishing would be like along the very strech you mention.

Where does one buy day tickets from and when would be a good time to go?

Stewpot...
Day tickets are available from the Red Lion and the Devonshire Fell Hotels...both in Burnsall. Midweek only in June and September and available 7 days a week in July and August.
The ticket then gives you access to a good 6 miles or more of mostly both banks with the odd bit of single bank and the odd club stretch of half a mile or so....you don't need a map to know where these stretches are...you will know Away from the barbecues though and you could be in Sweden or the Rockies....lovely,lovely water with opportunities for dries, wets and nymphing. Pick yer day and you will remember it for long time.

Very Very scary creatures Leonard....
The Scrote (Dickheadimus Chavius) can be seen at various waterside locations throughout the British Isles. They are predictable creatures of habit, and a sighting is guaranteed at the slightest hint of a shaft of sunlight and temperatures of 20+ degrees, but only between the hours of 13.00 and 20.00...when they skulk back to their lairs (licensed) in Leeds and Bradford, and only in the months of June,July and August with occasional activity on unusually hot days in May and September.
If you wish to view them, simply reccky the riverbank (or canal,or sewage treatment works) in the morning and look for their tell-tale droppings...empty Carling cans, disposable barbies that haven't been disposed of,boxes of Aldi burgers, placcy bags, soiled nappies, fag packets etc, then, shortly before 13.00,retire to a safe distance and watch. You will not need binoculars (they'll be right in yer face) and you'll be able to hear them coming about 2 miles before they get to you,as their 6,000,000 watt sound systems pump Sean Kingston and Eminem from their hot-hatches. The 'music' will feature throughout the day also.
They hunt in packs more often than not,and the arrival of 3 or more vehicles of (very ) closely related family groups at once is a common sight. The workload is cleverly shared, with each 'unit' providing a speciality service and essentials for a days revelry - barbecue, dinghy, football, beer, burgers,Cd's and naked kids,to name a few.
The males will sport those long shorts....or are they short longs exposing an 'England' tattoo (or bulldog or something 'hard') above the ankle, trainers, sleeveless t-shirts and Burberry caps. The female will also sport Burberry, but often displaying a penchant for 'Bench' or Kate Moss's 'Top Shop Collection' on special occasions like bank holidays.Hip length skirts are the order of the day,and the views are always shocking and arresting, but sadly, seldom delightful.
Their naked offspring will usually be out of sight and out of mind, wrecking the fishing with their dinghies and dogs.....as the 'adults' get wrecked, argue, smack their *****es up and acquire a very painful but very very amusing dose of sunburn

One excellent srote spotting place is at Devil's Bridge over the Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale - ghetto blaster on the rocks, special brew cans all over the show....

A couple of years ago, I was searching the area with polaroids, looking for summer grilse, when a bikini clad 'babe' leapt off the bridge and lost her top on the way down. My peace was somewhat shattered when her mate called down from the parapet "Sian, yer fookin tits are out!!"

Thank you for the reply scratch.

I had a drive up there to look at the river this afternoon and it seems like a nice part of river. I will have to go there next week.

I will also take my float tackle with me.
