Default River at Cromford - Derbyshire

I've just come back from an outing to the John Smedley Shop in Cromford, Derbyshire.

There's a fantastic river there - does anyone know who ha steh rights?

Smedleys is in Lea Bridge. The river is the Derwent and the club is Cromford Fly Fishers as Cassley quite rightly points out. You were very close to one of the most incredible winter grayling swims and never knew it!

Nice part of the Derwent Warren, although its been stocked 3 times this year as one attempt was just before the flooding and everything got washed away. Im told a 1000 fish a time by a Cromford member and he's been a member 31yrs, and that speaks volumes if you ask me.

Cromford stretch

They could spend some money on a proper baliff and not stock a single fish. It is what it is. Good quality middle river well within the trout/grayling zone. Typical club run for the members.

Default Cromford

Hi TM, as you probably know, I'm a big Derwent fan.

What I'm saying is, Cromford like Willersley isn't a Wild only stretch for wild only fans - its a little of both stocked/wild. I know personally its a great place to fish and often wonder how difficult it would be to join - waiting lists. Another point I was making is for a gentleman angler to fish that stretch for 31yrs suggests it must be extremely good fishing, and good value to boot.
Unfortunately I stopped drinking a few years ago , so I now have difficulty explaining myself properly , I also assume everyone knows where I'm coming from, but as you have found, thats not always the case .

Apologies sent for any spillage of fine malt

Mick

So the next question - how do I get to fish it?
