Default Nearest fly fishing river to Northamptonshire?

Hi Everyone!
I fancy giving river fly fishing a go.
Does anyone know or have any recommendations as to what would be the nearest river/club from Northamptonshire.

Thanks
Derek

Not much very close to you I'm afraid, your best shot is a short trip up the M1 to the Derbyshire Wye, alternatively possibly west to the Glos. Coln or maybe east to the upper Bure or Wensum.

Derbyshire Wye - Peacock Hotel at Rowsley has day tickets.
Glos. Coln - Bull Hotel at Fairford has day tickets.
Bure and Wensum - I'm not sure where to get tickets here other than at the Bure Valley trout fishery which I believe has a short stretch of river.

Depends where in Northants. There is a club which operates on the River Sence in Leicestershire. Gopsall Anglers or some such.

The other way to check out is East Yorks and Lincs Wolds. There be chalk streams and one or two nice freestone streams out that way. Quiet stuff, research needed.

There's also some fly fishing on the upper Windrush in Oxfordshire but it's desperately hard to get on.

TM's suggestion of East Yorks is good - have a look at www.mulberry-whin.com

Hi,
I believe that there is stream fishing for trout in Northamptonshire. The Eye Brook contains trout, so does the Ise, the upper Nene the otherside of Northampton contains trout. There was or used to be a mill stream trib of the Nene that was stocked with trout. There is also some river trouting in the River Swift way south of Leicester. Some people don't seem keen on letting on about river trouting and seem to guard it jealously in my opinion, hopefully I'm wrong. Some people are keen to share, and may invite you.
Good luck!
Nick
