Default River Don Web cams

In conjunction with The River Don Trust and Board, Semil Farm Fishings and the Kintore Golf Course the River Don now has two live web cams. One is at Strathdon, at the top of the river, overlooking the Newe Dam, and the other is at Kintore, in the lower river. The Kintore one will have a gauge post in the picture very soon.

These cameras will provide anglers with interesting and valuable river height information, so in addition to seeing the height of the water you will also be able to see the clarity and the like. The cameras website will also have a regular reports section, which will be updated monthly.

You can view the two cameras here:Farson Digital Watercams - Hi-def webcams on river Don

Question Re: River Don Web cams

Dear God I love these web cams; great places I'm not likely to see, just read about here on the Fora.

But one question if I may: The dam on Strathdon, what's its purpose? A lovely stream ... corked, fish ladder beside the point?

Hi Fred

Yes, well spotted, a old dam with an inefficient fish pass, owned by the river board.

Times are changing and this will have some form of pass on it soon. However, this camera will be interesting in winter, the snow drifts here get stupid deep and i am looking forward to the autumn, when the big runs get here and there shuld be plenty of fish to see.

In winter there will be deer and all maner of wildlife to see

Cheers

Diverdave

Dave, any idea what the 'original purpose' of the dam may have been, and is it really adding anything to the Party at this time?

Ask as we've pulled out three damned dams here on the Rogue (and breached a 4'th on a trib). 30 more miles (40 if you want to add in the trib) of open river for the fish. to do their thing.

The remaining one (Wm Jess - and it's 'damned big' - pun intended) will never go as it's main purpose of flood control. At this point the lake behind (Lost Lake) is 97% full and we haven't even gotten to snow melt filling up that Puppy. Corp of Eng's Guys are dumping water like crazy to lower the lake level; fishing is totally screwed if you're a fluff chucker. But if they don't it will get darned interesting in about two months.
