Can I ask why you picked this stretch? The Coln is ok. Has a decent head of grayling as well as lots of stocked trout. You fish the Bull stretch... it's like fishing in a high street somedays - full of green welly types walking the lab and getting under feet.

What kind of fishing are you after Luke?

Ok. Tough gig trying to find easily accessible waters in East Gloucs on a DT. The Coln is a funny river. Lovely in a character but little more than a mobile stock pond in most places. The Swan Hotel Bibury also do DT's. If you want something a little more secluded, try the Densford fishery on the Kennet near Hungerford - ok it is stocked but there are wild fish there and it is in a lively little nature reserve. There is also Barton Court - again on the Kennet. So... not GLoucs, but not a million miles from Aylesbury. Both available on google searches.

But.... to tell you the truth, you need to come a bit further west

Nope! Into the wonderful world of the Welsh Borders. More fishing than you can shake a stick at and for autumn/winter grayling fishing, there is a stunning choice.

I'm with Tigermoth on the Welsh streams. IMHO although in a nice setting with plenty of wildlife the Denford fishing is a severe disappointment at the money but Barton Court can be quite nice.

Avoid the Swan Hotel water at Bibury unless you like fishing for a crowd and have flies that look like bread, there's 50 tail-less rainbows for every wild brown. The Bull water can be good but as TM says the banks are well trodden and as it has been C&R for quite few seasons, the fish can be very spooky indeed.

Go for the welsh streams for trout ,and grayling .There is the Wye Usk foundation to look at and then there is a rather interesting little auction of fishing and flies down at the bottom of the forum .
Sewinbasher have to agree with you re Denford for trouting ,those rainbows tend to be rubbish ,I do like the grayling fisshing there though !
Good for a londoner in winter ,

Yes, it's a shame, they have some of the poorest quality rainbows you could imagine at a ridiculous price for a day ticket. The fishery itself is lovely, I've been having the odd day there since the early 1980s, but it would be a much better fishery if they just promoted the browns even if it meant stocking a few. Until I stopped going I used to ignore the rainbows and walked around looking for browns and there are (were) some lunkers there.

I'd recommend the Bull waters. If you choose you're time and place you can avoid the crowds. A wet day is always nice and quiet At least the fish are wild. Denford and Barton Court are pretty dreadful in my opinion as it is mostly stocked fish as the replies so far note. I guess it depends what you are looking for.
