Default The Six Mile Water - Northern Ireland

Apologies to all who read and contributed to this post so far, but i realised I had given the river the wrong name in the title. Here's what you missed so far.

Hi all,

Thought I'd get the ball rolling on this new forum. It's getting near that time of year when things on the Six Mile really begin to hot up, and last years Six Mile thread was a real success.

I have already heard of 2 dollaghan being caught. I was down at the Salmon boxes on Friday Night and my mate talked an auld fella who claimed to have already landed a 5 pounder on a sedge from below the boxes. I fished till dark downstream of the boxes and didn't see any dollaghan move; only an otter that invaded the last pool I was trying to fish. I took the hint and packed up for the night. I had good sport with the wee brownies anyway.

p.s. I noticed that there has been some really good work done down at the boxes - a new road (no more potholes), a picnic table, a larger area for cars to park and some nice Wildlife information boards. I even think some of the burnt out cars have been taken away from the small car park half way down the lane on the way to the boxes. Haha

there are numbers of dollaghan about the river, with fair numbers being caught as far up as the School Pool. They came up in the last flood, can't remember when exactly that was (sometime in June). However the river is now extremely low and in need of a good flood to freshen it up. The fish have also become a bit dour which is not surprising given the weather

got another fish last nite, a nice fish just over 2lbs - however the river is very low again after last weeks slight freshening. It really needs a good flood to clean it out. That will also bring in some fresh fish as the ones in at the moment have become very dour - not surprising as they have been in since June in this weather
