Default Water of Leith (Edinburgh)

Hey everyone, i'm a new fly fisherman so though i would post. I have done a fair bit of loch fishing, and am completely new to river fishing. the Water of Leith is about 5 mins from me, so decided to take the rod out today and see whats what.

I found several nice deep pools up from the dell pub, though most where taken by lure fisherman

Finally found a nice spot, nice pools, fair bit of current and loads of insects. I am having real trouble casting due to the trees (and even lost a few flies). I even had some neds throw stones into the water near me, how nice of them!

Basically i am wondering where is good to fish on the Leith, ideally from the dell-ish area? Also what flies people are using

cheers

hey ive fished the water for a few years noo only live 5 mins away aswell your better traveling up the water to the bypass area you get the odd dog handler throwing stuff in for ther dogs but the fish are used to it and come bk 10-15 mins later. a wouldnt worry to much about loosing flys up ther most of us who have fishid it know the same feeling lol. the flys i personally prefer are gray dusters blue duns black gnats black spiders. hope this helps and tight lines.

Only just got back into the forum since end of season hence missing few months. If uve got waders there are some good pools up juniper green and currie way. Theres a peach under west mill road near to the old flyglobespan building. its hard to get to without going in above the knees. Took a 2lb bt on a hares lug nymph in september. A shock as im used to the half lb - 1lb from the wol. Tight lines for next season...
