Default River Calder

On the Calder today for a couple of hours around Copley, things seem to be picking up, had 9 Brown Trout and 3 out of Season Grayling, one about 1.5 lb. This was my best Brownie.

Just in from spending the evening guiding for fellow forum member greenie58.
His 1st time fly fishing on a river, fished the Duo and had 4 fish and lost two, one a decent Brownie. A good effort.

Dave also caught this little silver chap. We couldn't decide if it's a Rainbow Trout, Salmon Parr or Sea Trout.

I am running three introduction to the river Calder days over the next three months. The days will cover the best places to fish and access points, the best flies to use and the methods that work best. I will be taking a group of four anglers out on each day, the day is more suited to anglers with some experience of fly fishing. The cost of the day will be £45.00 per angler, this will include the cost of your day ticket, flies for use on the day and tackle if required. If your already a member of Ryburn and Halifax the cost will be £40.00. All the dates will be on a Saturday, these being the 23rd July, 20th August and the 24th September.
Please PM or email me if interested or for further info.

Regards,
Gary.

Just in from an evening fishing on the Calder, been trying out one of John Tyzack's Enhanced Turnover French Leaders. Really impressed, great line turnover, even when fishing #20 dry's. Plenty of fish about both Trout and Grayling, finished the evening with 16 fish. It was Grayling Central in the pool below Copley Bridge, as I left, I watched from the bridge, the pool was bubbling with fish rising.

Took a group of 3 anglers out last night, fished the 3 pools down from Copley Bridge. Not a bad night, 16 fish in total, 6 Trout and 10 Grayling. A very good Brownie was lost at the net, estimated at around 2lb. Again the pool directly below Copley Bridge was stuffed full of fish, mainly Grayling. 13 of the 16 fish came out of that pool.
