Default River Conwy

How is the Conwy fishing at the moment and what are the best stretches to try on?

It's a little early in the season for migratory action although salmon have been seen in the Betws y Coed area. The next decent lift in height should bring a few salmon in plus some early sea trout (often the bigger ones) but at the moment it's probably brown trout only. Light rain is forecast today and we had a little last night although nothing is registering on the gauge yet which is showing the river to be on its bones right now.

Check the gauge here.

Environment Agency - River levels station data

A flood of 1.5 metres should bring the fish in and 2 metres takes them into the Lledr.

The best bet is to try a day ticket from the Gwydyr Hotel as they have good water on the Conwy and Lledr. The National Trust has decent brownie fishing above the falls.

I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

Thanks. I don't suppose you know who owns the rights to fishing in the estuary? I hear they have yellow bellied trout there too. It may also be better to go to the Sewin if they aren't going to come to me further up. Are the N.T. waters free fishing or are the rights held by someone else? I like that the tickets from the Gwydyr Hotel are for dusk to dawn that's excellent. No need to seek special permission to night fish when the time is right.

Cheers,
John

Conwy/Lledr Fishing
PRICES ON APPLICATION

Sea Trout – Dusk to Dawn PRICES ON APPLICATION

Erm... how should I phrase this..? "If you have to ask; you probably can't afford it"

A Gwydyr 'night rod' cost £1,000 - for what is really a fairly short season - two years ago.

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I must have got confused/mixed up somewhere!

I definitely can't afford that. Looks like that stretch then is just for the uber rich/elites/upper class not for the common man like me. I guess I will have to go for the Bodelwyddan Anglers part or Betws-Y-Coed Anglers if I want to go there or another stretch that does day tickets? Do you know anything about Llanrwst Anglers Club? Failing that just fish in the Eastury for free??? Else it will be another river if its too expensive or difficult to get tickets. Which stretches would you recommend on a day ticket for two figures sums?

Stuartpengs on here is a member of Llanrwst. Its not a bad stretch, just above the Plas Madoc fishings that's about £35,000 when you get to the end of the waiting list... kinda puts the Gwydyr ticket into perspective.

Actually a Gwydyr day ticket - for the night - can be quite good if you know the water. I think they will be £30 this year.
Day (24 hr) tickets were only issued to hotel guests - I think this is still the case.

No, you can get them if you are a non-resident but only if no hotel guests want them. Hoppy took a night ticket here last season and got six decent sewin for his efforts.

Yes I know the night fishing tickets are - I've taken some when they were £25 - I meant daytime day tickets for salmon, which still can be used to night fish, used to be (still are?) restricted to hotel guests only.

PS. Not a bad place to stay if you've travelled a fair way.
