Default The River Test - a rip off?

Does anyone fish the Test? I've just spent a couple of days in Stockbridge doing some research and I can't find any fishing available for under three figures for this time of the year. My question to the forum is "Is it worth paying these kinda sums for the fishing on the River Test?"

Nope. If you want some chalkstream fishing there are some great beats here and a reasonable cost: www.goflyfishing.co.uk

In most cases a resounding "no" as all you will be fishing for is stockie pellet pig rainbows and, if you are lucky, a few stockie browns. The wild Test fish are thin on the ground but by goodness me you know when you get one.

You can catch better fish on Grafham for a fraction of the price, or, if you want chalk stream fishing, go to somewhere like Barton Court on the Kennet (still stockies but less than half the price) or even better the Bull at Fairford on the Glos. Coln where a C&R policy for the past few years ensures that you are fishing for essentially wild fish and you will find them a much better test of your skills at £30 a day or thereabouts.

Or you could put your name on the list for Salisbury & District; yes I know there's a waitng list of 2 years, but unless you do it now it will never happen.

www.salisburydistrictac.co.uk

Well worth the wait; £138 per year (equivalent to 4 days in Bakewell, and 2 days in Dorset), and more fishing than you can shake a stick at, literally !

I think Timsbury is about £70 per day, but in my view it is rubbish and not worth the money.......

There are beats on the Avon advertised for £50 per day in the back of Traout & Salmon - that is much more tempting.........

Yes it is but only in so far as it is worth fishing it just so that you know that it is and you can say that you have fished it.

I've Fished Timsbury twice but on corporate days, as a stand in so did not have to stump up cost and had a very good lunch and tea thrown in. I was lucky in that regard.

I would not go back under my own steam and cost but very glad of the opportunity.

Agree entirely with other suggestions of better fishing around the place. Peacock water is as close to a true chalk stream as you can get and it remains one of the very best rivers that I have fished.
