Glad to hear that Henry was none the worse for his little dip!

Aye he's fine. Just gone for a recovery walk with his Ma after yesterday's hard work on a shoot up near Barnsley. I reckon he wears himself out by the constant wagging of his tail, which continues throughout the day even when he is at the "SIT"!

The cradle of fly fishing history is on its way back from the brink...

You can read the first instalment here.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. It is rather exciting. Living here in Bakewell we have the hub of the fly fishing universe and just a few miles over the hill we have the cradle of it all, the source for Charles Cotton's experience that he set down in 1675 for posterity and the continued benefit of anglers and lovers of literature all over the world.

Flitting house to Bakewell was one of the best things I ever did...

Default They're back

At last the small millstream is now up to a proper height, and with it the fish have returned, I counted 12 browns & rainbows on a short stretch of only about 15 yards, on my way home from walking the dog. No doubt they will be ready for spawning. The mutt was so pleased that she jumped in bear fashion in a poor attempt to secure a slippery meal.... no such luck, she'll need more practice - or bread and a bent pin

To all you fly tyers!
Check out the LED/magnifier on offer at LiDL next week. Looks pretty good value to me. I use a 'daylight' jobby at the moment but it is a bit bulky so will invest next week.

Dear Anglers,

I have been working on my third year dissertation, and I would appreciate your input.

My work is centred around our river systems in the North. As an ecological anthropologist my piece is concerned with the river systems ecology and the influence, and subsequent impact, which humans have had upon the Northern river systems. This covers many topics from material culture; culling to conversation.

Could I ask you to take 10 minutes to complete a simple questionnaire online to help me with my analysis? If you click on the link below it should direct you:

A few of you have already been kind enough to fill this out, thank you. I have gathered some interesting and informative responses, thanks again .

See you by the river bank, best of luck in the new season.

Walked the Dove through Beresford Dale today with three keepers! They're a bit like 'buses...

Very exciting prospects in store for this river. It has every chance of coming back to its once upon a time very high quality and status. Andrew Heath is the keeper on there now and he has a mission!

I've done the survey - think the questions were a bit biased, not neutrally worded. Also surely a useful question would have been how long you'd been fishing? If you're answering a question about the last 10 years and you've only been fishing for 3 of them you won't get a true set of results...anyway best of luck with the survey and I hope you publish a link to the results at some point

Default Leek & District Working Party

All Members (and those that just like to work)

It's the first of the working parties on the BB this weekend (Meeting by the Ford at 9 am Sat).

We intend to install brushwood bundles (made previously) along the banks to create a bit more riffle and speed in the canalised section. Whilst they fill up with slit over the coming years they will act as habitat for the smaller trout helping there to.

All welcome including those that own wire snips and fence post hammers.
