Default Herefordshire Frome

Anyone know anything about the Herefordshire Frome and details of clubs with waters there?

Many thanks

Currently full of mobile homes from Bromyard!!

There are trout in the Frome but probably not many. I do not know of any clubs and that is probably due to the fishing not being that great. The river is more of a brook with high banks and I would expect it to be like jungle warfare but great fun, if there are a few fish to go at.

I am sure that if you went and knocked on few farmer's doors, clutching a fiver, that you would be greeted with open arms (unless they are combining!) by most if not all from Bromyard downstream.

Have you thought of Leigh brook at Alfrick. I might be able to sort out a few contacts for you and on the Frome, if you wanted?

Default Leigh Brook

Hi Temefisher - Leigh Brook is available via the Gamefishers Club. A few people on here are members including myself and a regular poster Tigermoth. It's not that expensive and has several other decent rivers. Despite the LB looking very streamy and small, it holds a good stock of wild browns and some are of surprising calibre. There's also another even smaller trib called Cradley Brook which I haven't fished but also said to be pretty good. 7ft rods or possibly smaller are the name of the game.

Best wishes

Tim

Thanks chaps.

I am thinking of applying to the Gamefishers Club to fish Leigh Brook as this is only about five minutes from where I live. Are there any grayling in Leigh Brook? That would extend the season a bit and help make my mind up.

I don't think there are any Grayling as such in the LB and as a result it's not listed as one that members should fish throughout winter. The GFC do have Grayling fisheries on their books - The Clun and Monnow are the best of them in my experience but obviously they are further afield. Well worth the journey though!! I live in Birmingham and make the trip and find it worthwhile.

Had a feeling that might be the case. When does the season start/finish on LB?

Sorry TF, been meaning to answer your queries sooner. The Leigh Brook does have grayling in it, but not in quantities that make them realistic sole quarry. The LB is a challenging small stream but the GFC stretch is rammed with wild trout - mostly small but with the odd bigger fish (13"+). As a trib of the Teme, you find that the larger fish do make their way up there. In my experience it fishes well early season, ie late March/April.

The other GFC waters are decent enough. For a look at the kind of fishing their Monnow beat offers, check out my blog and look at the phot section with shots referenced for Pandy or Altyrynnis. The Clun can be excellent and the Lugg is also good for grayling, as is the Tanat. To be honest I only tend to fish the Monnow/Honddu these days because frankly I like it

Most of the GFC waters require small light tackle and a stealthy approach, they provide me with some of the most enjoyable fishing I have experienced.

Thanks chaps

Shame there is no winter fishing on LB. Think I'll hone my skills (for want of a better word!) on the Teme for the timebeing, see how I get on. I know one or two bits that are still quiet enough for me to practice without much fear of someone laughing at my casting!

Cheers for now.

Has anybody else heard the Leigh Brook referred to as the "River Rundle/Rundall" ? My dad (from Malvern) always calls it that.
