Default Tweed at Peebles

Fishing here at the weekend for the first time. Does anyone know the area? FInding it hard to get a bit of local info from the Peebleshire Trout Ass.

Many thanks,
Stewart.

Hello,

I'll be staying at the Macdonald Cardrona and was wondering if there is good access near here. I know that the water around Stobo seems to be private.

Looking for some decent wading water to try out the new chest waders, but only have the one day - not much room for a full morning exploring unfortunately.

Thanks for replies.

I have fished the Cardrona water for salmon a few times - the hotel charges about £30 per day for salmon fishing, as I recall. I believe the Peeblesshire Trout Fishing Association has the trout fishing in the same stretch next to the hotel - about £9 per day. The physical access to the water is easy all the way and lots of it is easily wadeable, though you need to be careful if the water is up a bit. There are some big trout and grayling in there and may well also be some salmon about given the amount of water there has been in the river. It is not a bad place to fish, though much of it is close by the busy road. Upstream from the hotel is probably quieter.

before packing your gear try this website for the river levels

http://www.fishtweed.co.uk/pages/riv...?dom=FishTweed

they have been up and down for the last three weeks, As for wading the tweed is quite easy in low water, if you get fishing post how your trip went.

The stobo stretch is £10.00 per day and permits can be bought from Broughton Stores in Broughton.

You can call the beat owner on 07791696129 his name is Fin and is well worth speaking to for some knowledge on the Stobo Beat.

Thanks again chaps. Had a great day with a couple of nice browies - nothing of any great size. The river was still very high and no rises anywhere.

Caught on little grayling style bugs close into the bank.

GF more than happy with her hot stone massage, so succes all round

Regards,
Stewart.
