Default River Wharfe - Bolton Abbey

I am booked to be in the Bolton Abbey area from sunday 1st July for a few days. Can anyone give me any info on the state of the river and a view of likely conditions over the next several days? It would be much appreciated as this was to have been my first attempt at fly fishing in Yorkshire.

Thanks

Default Mick Rock - Keeper

mwj1045

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but I too intend to take a trip to the Wharfe with the specific intention of visiting Mick Rock who used to live just above Barden bridge.
I was wondering if he's still there as it's about 15 years since we last had contact.
Perhaps some of the Wharfe regulars will leave word?
Thanks

C

I should imagine the Wharfe will be out of action for the next few days with high water and more heavy rain is predicted over the next few days.
Mick Rock is still above Barden so watch out for the Dogs

Te-he I know

Thanks for the info. I'll call on him in 2/3 weeks.
If you see him in passing: say Colin sends his regards, the guy who bred Tommy, he'll know.

Thanks again DrRob - this really is an excellent forum.

Looks bad for the next week unfortunately.

Local stillwaters are:

Washburn Valley (Swinsty, Fewston & Thruhcross Reservoirs - all fishable on same ticket). Rainbows on first two, wild browns on Thruscross. No boats - bank only.

Stocks Reservoir - nr Slaidburn, Lancs. Excellent, well-managed fishery with good boat and bank fishing. Large enough never to be crowded (apart from opening day ). Rainbow, brown & blue trout.

Feel free to pm if you want any tips for the above.

Tight lines
Marra

I fished the Wharfe at Addingham this afternoon and evening, just below Bolton Abbey, well up on normal summer levels but clear and falling. Several fish lost to various flies, a few rises and a couple of fish to the net. The river is difficult to wade and dangerous in parts. I understand the forecast is for more rain. So no doubt it will be up in the next few days.
