Just wondering if there are any other Trout fishers on here that fish the Tyne and Coquet, Derwent etc. Northumbrian waters basically.

Hi Mike,

Yep, there is another one here!

I've been fishing the Derwent this season and so far it's been going pretty well, particularly seeing as this is also my first season fly fishing. I'm a maggot drowner really, so I'm more used to chasing chub on the Wear, but seeing as I live in Rowlands Gill, it seemed pretty daft not to check out the Derwent, so I joined Derwent AA. It really is a lovely river and I'm only just finding my way round, but against all the odds I have actually been catching when I go out. It's been all brownies so far, but I'm told there are a fair few grayling in the river too.

I'm also a member of Four in One, who have stretches on the Tyne at Hexham and at Wylam, but I've been that taken with the Derwent that I've not been down yet. And while I'm still buggering about trying to figure out which end of a fly rod is which, the Tyne seems like a big, intimidating bit of water to try and find a fish in!

John
