Default River trouting near York

I am working at the Yorkshire Show in early July, staying in York. I would prefer an evenings fishing instead of sitting on my own each night watching TV. Does anyone know how and where I can get on to a small stream / river in the evening. Needs to be closeish (20 miles) to York / Harrogate. I will need the facility to sort out tickets etc beforehand to avoid wasting time. Just as an aside when I have been on business in Devon / Cornwall the Angling 2000 scheme there is a fantastic way to get a day's/evening fishing. Nearly all the beats are really wild and real 'commando style trouting'
Thanks in anticipation

Damper,

Or you could have a go at Bolton Abbey Estate water on the Wharfe, 20 mins (ish) from Harrogate. 5 miles both banks and a DT is £20. Avoid the crowds of day-trippers and you will find plenty of fish. www.boltonabbey.com...

Tight Lines,
JT

Try this, just up from bolton Abbey and much better water than Bolton Abbey with no tourists, boats and dogs.

Tickets can be bought from the Brown Trout in Harrogate before you set off.

Default Thanks to you all

Chaps,
Thanks for replying so promptly, I knew I could rely on the forum.
The Wharfe looks a huge river compared to my southern brooks and streams. Looking at the photos there does not seem to be too many bushes and trees to inhibit casting so at least I should be able to finish with the same number of flies as I started with, that will certainly be a first.
To be able to fish new rivers is always a thrill even if I remain fishless, it's just great to be out there.
Looks like I need to add some Northern spiders to my fly box !!
Thanks again.

I think the day ticket water on the Nidd below Pateley Bridge will be closed due to the virus outbreak.
