Default River Dochart?

Hi Guys,

Anyone know about the Dochart for trout from Loch Lubhar down to Killin?

I believe the first 1km or so is free from the Loch any info on trout only fishing appreciated.

Pete

Pete, if you pass by loch Lubhair heading to Killin and tavel about 2 miles you'll see a sign saying Auchlyne to the left. Take this road cross over the bridge and travel about half mile you will come to a white bungalow on your left. Stop in there where the keeper George Coyne will give you a trout or salmon permit 5 and 10 pound respectively. That gives you fishing from where the Dochart leaves loch lubhair right down to the bottom of Auchlyne estate , i think its about 6 /7 miles of water. great value salmon fishing and nice broonies as well . Below auchlyne estate belongs to killin aa and the beat is for members only as far as i'm aware .Shame ,great rapids and pocket water for picking browns out of in summer.

Hope this helps mate

All the best

Mark

Useful information from Tweed. Many years ago I bought a day permit for the Killin AC water above Killin, from the newsagent in Killin, if memory serves. Things may have changed, of course, since then but may be worth enquiring in the village.

Good to hear that John. Every time i fish the lower end of Auchlyne etates in summer i look down at the faster ,pockety water in envy. It screams trout. Thanks . Pete, let me know what you find out mate.

cheers

Pete, i dont know the level of casting abilities in your party, but i'm assuming your guys are coming from small stillwaters. If so, then you all should be able to put out a reasonable line for wets and spiders across and down and let them swing. Nice relaxing ,easy option. The slightly more advanced should be searching with upstream fan casts with nymphs, emergers or dries. Again, this is all dependendant on what is actully happening on the river itself ie hatches etc. Keep your eyes peeled for whats flying about and rising trout and try to deduce whats on the menu for the day. Always think what your fly is doing if its submerged. Wet/dry greenwells and olive spider patterns work well this time of year. Fish auchlyne estates. There are lots of variety of water types plus you get 7 miles. When are you going ? Have an am session then meet up for lunch and move to another area.

i was passing the dochart between crainlarach-lix toll .on saturday the 12th about 4.45pm and it was obvious that there had been a bus trip to the river, many guys waiting for the bus with bags of fish, some of the bags looked pretty heavy.so it looks as if the river has had a bit of a doing with the bait boys.just thought i'd mention it,
loch lubnaig had another bus trip that day.plenty of guys by the roadside waiting to catch their 42 seat single decker.
