Default Irish Rivers

Dear All,

I am off on a tour of Ireland (setting off from Galway) after some wild brownies. I plan to fish the Corrib during the mayfly and then head down to fish the Suir (Clonanav) and possibly head back up north to fish the Boyne.

Can anyone suggest any other decent rivers to fish (preferably with a Mayfly hatch) in Ireland (distance no object)

Thanks,

Drfrank

No first hand experience, but I have a feeling that some of the Moy tributaries such as the Gweestion get a mayfly hatch. Peter O'Reilly's book will no doubt give more and better info, though.

Most rivers have some Mayfly, whether trout go on to them or if there are enough of is a different matter. The Liffey get a resonable hatch some years but its hit and miss. Al rivers this side of the country are pretty low at present. Rain needed badly!

Personally I wouldn't bother with Clonanav, overpriced fishing for tourists imho and its not to be encourged. There are loads of clubs on the Suir and Nore which offer day tickets - all pretty cheap aswell €10-50 (mostly around the €15 mark.) My regular haunts are the Liffey (North Kildare), the Nore (both at Durrow and Thomastown), The Fane & others (Dundalk). The Annalee & others (Cootehill ish). I've not fished the Boyne proper but have fished the Kells Blackwater. All the above offer pure wild brown trout fishing, come back to me with specific questions if you want.

Paul
