Default Fishing near Manchester Airport?

Wondered if anyone can help,
I'm working near Manchester Airport all next week and wondered if anyone has any info on access to fishing within the area. Not sure what time I'll have off but if possible would like to spend some time fishing rather than in the pub as usual!
Cheers
Woody

There is the little river Birkin. Tatton Estate used to be able to put you onto it, or try google

Woody,

Still water or river?

Still water - I'd recommend Marton Heath, Dane Bridge and Westlow Mere
River - there is the River Dane, you can get day tickets from Eaton Fly Fishers, or there is the Wye if you are willing to go into Derbyshire, you can get day tickets from Stephen Moores at Monsal Head or the Peacock Hotel at Rowsley

I fish them all, pm me if you need more info

Mark

Sorry TM but fishing on the Birken has always been via Birkin fly fishing association and the club goes back into the late 1800s. There are no day tickets and the small membership is presently closed with a small waiting list.

Members do get a couple of 1 day guest tickets as part of the membership but the water is strictly private and Tatton estate has no say over who fishes as the water is not leased from them. On its day its a lovely water and the back end see's quite a few big wild brownies caught, I'm talking 4 to 7lb in what is basically a small brook.

Fwiw I would head off to Westlow Mere, your journey will be easy as the bulk of it will be M56/M6 and its a decent size water.

How about the River Dee at Llangollen. From Manchester Airport it is about 50 miles but on very fast roads so probably about an hour or so. Ask on the 'Dee forum' about ckets...plenty available but I'm not sure of the exact pace to buy.

Default Thanks.....

Thanks to everyone for your replies, as usual this forum has proved a powerfull source of information. I didn't get a chance to get out anywhere in the end but will keep the info to hand as it looks like I'll be returning there sometime this year for a longer period.
Thanks again.
